There are two types of glass fiber production processes: twice forming - crucible drawing method, and once forming - tank furnace drawing method.
The crucible wire drawing method has various processes. Firstly, the glass raw material is melted at high temperature to form a glass ball, and then the glass ball is melted twice to produce a glass fiber precursor through high-speed wire drawing. This process has various drawbacks such as high energy consumption, unstable molding process, and low labor productivity, and is basically eliminated by large glass fiber manufacturers.
The pool furnace wire drawing method melts raw materials such as pyrophyllite into a glass solution in the kiln, removes bubbles, and then transports them through a passage to a porous leakage plate, where they are high-speed drawn into fiberglass raw wires. The kiln can connect hundreds of leakage plates through multiple channels for simultaneous production. This process is simple, energy-saving, stable, efficient, and high-yield, making it easy for large-scale fully automated production. It has become the international mainstream production process, and the glass fiber produced by this process accounts for over 90% of global production.
